The Crown Estate's Nature Recovery vision

The Crown Estate are taking a leading role in stewarding the UK’s natural environment and biodiversity.

About the Nature Recovery Ambition

The Crown Estate is custodian of diverse marine, coastal, rural and urban habitats that are home to thousands of species vital for the environment, our communities and the economy.

Creating locally accessible green spaces provides a range of broader benefits to society and the environment such as improved air quality, temperature regulation and biodiversity enhancement.

We have a goal to protect and grow nature-rich green and blue spaces across our urban portfolio and to increase social and well-being benefits from nature.

We need to balance the national need for regeneration, with environmental and social needs.

Construction can be messy and noisy, so finding a solution that improves this part of the development project’s lifecycle is a win for the local community and for nature.

This project, in partnership with the team behind Who else lives here? is paving the way for a new way of thinking across all our construction sites, and we are now looking at how to replicate this approach across other urban construction sites.

This is part of a wider approach to regeneration, where we are working with Westminster City Council to transform Regent Street, Piccadilly Circus and Haymarket, with an ambition to enhance nature, well-being and climate change resilience, while creating a more accessible and inclusive West End.

From its £20m environment fund to help farmers with nature recovery, establishing 700 acres of new forestry created, to the 30 projects in marine and coastal areas including oyster and seagrass restoration, to reintroducing beavers into the heart of Northamptonshire, we are working to deliver joined up action on nature recovery.
